This class is taught by:

Rick Resnick

Rick is one of Alaska's most recognizable yoga teachers, with over 20 years of teaching experience. He first certified with Bikram Choudhury in 1996. He has since trained with teachers as diverse as Sonia Sumar (Yoga for the Special Needs Child) to Jimmy Barkan (Barkan Method of Hot Yoga) appreciating the commonality in thoughts, in language, and in spirit. Rick believes that Yoga works to strengthen all aspects of ourselves. " With dedication to our practice we find the pathways to physical health, mental clarity and emotional stability, but it is not without work."

Sara Villafuerte

I started practicing yoga in 2012 at Anchorage Yoga. I knew after my first class that my life was never going to be the same. My yoga journey will be life long and has been the most humbling yet uplifting experience that is always growing and ever changing. I attended Anchorage Yoga Teacher Training in 2013 to deepen my personal practice and understanding of yoga. In July and August of 2015, I completed Sterling Hot Yoga Works Teacher Training in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. The community at Anchorage Yoga is amazing, like nothing I have ever experienced. The love and support I have from everyone, including teachers and students, is unparalleled. Yoga fills my cup when I am empty and allows me to give more of myself to my family and be a better mom. Yoga continually helps me find balance in my body, mind, and soul and has taught me always to try and just be present in the moment.

Sara Forbes-Hall

I’m an active person who spends a lot of my time outside. Growing up I was a dancer and a gymnast until I realized the damage I was causing to my joints. I was challenged by my best friend to take my first Bikram Yoga class back in 2006, and after a couple of classes I fell in love with the practice; I could feel the difference in my body and joints. I attended the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training Program in L.A. in the fall of 2012 and ever since, I’ve been sharing my learnings and practice with students. I’ve studied Health Science and Human Anatomy which influences my teachings as I focus on the alignment and structure of the body throughout my practice. My classes are fun and happy and I’m always here to encourage, teach, and discuss yoga with anyone; novice to experienced.

I took my first yoga class with Rick Resnick on August 1, 2009. I had no idea what I was getting into. I made it through class and was hooked. My idea of yoga did not hold up to what I had just done. I was exhausted but my body felt great and my back felt better than it had for a long time. Today, I am stronger, have better balance and am more flexible than ever before. I have learned that I “can”. I hope to be practicing hot yoga until a very old age. Each day brings you the opportunity to learn something new about yourself and work towards finding balance between your mind, body, and soul.

Nafisa Abdul-Jillil

Nafisa Abdul Jillil was born and raised in Anchorage Alaska, she graduated from East Anchorage High School 1995. Nafisa moved to Los Angeles in 1997 Danced Professionally for Eight Years with many different Artist Ranging from Janet Jackson, Brittney Spears, Tina Turner and Usher. I began to practice Bikram Yoga in December of 2003 learning about it on a Dance Job I was working on with NIKE Athletics. My First class was tough so I knew I had to do it again. I loved the fact of you didn’t have the choice or option to Quit! Just you, your mat and Towel and Breath. I went to Teacher Training Spring 2007 In Hawaii and it was Amazing. Started teaching right away at all the Top Studios in Los Angeles Bikram Headquarters, Studio City and Bikram Pasadena. I have attended many seminars and classes with Bikram and Rajashree Choudhury, Emmy cleaves and Craig villain. I love teaching because I love working with people to achieve their goals of being FOCUSED, HAPPY, HEALTHY AND BALANCED!
(all levels) Based off of the Bikram series of 26 poses and two breathing exercises practiced in a room heated to 102. The heat and humidity allow for the body to stretch more deeply and safely, increase circulation to facilitate the body’s natural ability to heal, and helps us detoxify. It systematically stimulates the organs, glands, and nervous system and moves freshly oxygenated blood to 100% of the body.
